About Tycen

My name is Tycen Legg, and I’m excited to engage with my fellow Beaches-East Yorkers and eventually run for council in Beaches–East York once registation opens in May 2026.

Born and raised in Toronto, I’ve spent my life living, working, and learning in the city I love. Nearly a decade ago, I found Beaches–East York, and it quickly became home. Every day I feel lucky to enjoy what our community offers, and to try to give back the same warmth and welcome I receive every day.

You might catch me walking Prometheus, my sweet Golden Retriever, from Taylor Creek to Woodbine Beach and anywhere in-between, biking across the city on Bike Share, relaxing in one of our beautiful parks, or picking up litter in my free time. These everyday moments have helped me appreciate the strengths of our ward and have inspired me to work toward making it an even better place to live.

Amongst many things, I bring experience in urban policy and academic knowledge in urban studies, public policy, and economics. I also spent time as a Canada Post letter carrier, seeing Toronto’s neighbourhoods up close. These perspectives give me the tools to tackle the challenges facing our ward with a clear, community-focused vision.

I was inspired to embark on this journey by conversations with my neighbours over the years, by the value of listening, sharing ideas, and wanting better for the place we call home. I’m also motivated by my grandmother, one of the strongest women I’ve known, who once ran for mayor of Etobicoke.

Most of all, I’m motivated by you, my neighbours. I’m embarking on this journey to one day bring your voice to City Hall, to solve the everyday issues we all experience, and to help shape city-wide solutions that will strengthen Beaches–East York and Toronto for the future.

Three things about me

Enthusiastic about helping

I care deeply about this community, and nothing motivates me more than solving real problems for my neighbours. Whether it’s a small fix on your street or a city-wide issue that needs a strong voice, I’m committed to showing up, listening, and getting things done.

Everyday transit & active mobility user

I walk, bike, and take transit across the ward daily. Not just for convenience, but because it keeps me grounded in how our streets and services actually work. My ideas come from lived experience: what it feels like to cross Danforth, ride a streetcar stuck at slow signals, or bike to Woodbine Beach.

A policy nerd

I love digging into how the city functions. Zoning, transit operations, planning rules, budgets, and turning complex systems into practical solutions that improve everyday life. Good policy can make neighbourhoods fairer, safer, more vibrant, and more sustainable, and I’ll excited to share that kind of thoughtful problem-solving with BEY and hopefully at City Hall eventually.
